SEX DRUGS, ROCK & ROLL! That’s the first thing I can think of when I enter Gene Coffee. Located right across Foundations on Main Street. To continue the theme from the hipster treatment of I don’t give a s#*t about our customer service index, we decided to grab a mean cup of joe Gene.

When you walk in you see a monochromatic white them. Two ladies in their 70-80’s Madonna era theme apparel are in charge of the coffee making. 70’s-80’s music is blasting and hipsters working away on their Macbook Pro / Air.  You will notice that they do not really care for the condition of their furniture and counters. You can’t really complain about the ambiance, it’s just part of the charm, part of the subculture they are expressing through coffee.

I ordered an Americano. It’s STRONG. I think they put more than the required shots espresso normally in an Americano. (Starbucks Grande Americano = 3 shots espresso)

Nance ordered a latte. Creamy, thick, and rich. Same strong taste as the Americano. Maybe we looked like zombies that day and the Britney Murphy lookalike lady felt sorry for us.

At the end of the day, you are walking into a subculture themed coffee shop. Don’t complain about the customer service, the chipped coffee cup, or broken tables. If you’re looking for pretentious  Italian opera music playing in the background and ordering sizes in tall, grande, and vente. There’s a Starbucks up the street.
